THE AWAKENED ONE
Thich Thong Hoi
Zen Master Thich Thong Hoi, who sought liberation after witnessing the fragility of life and the suffering of war, after years of restless questioning and practice, finally merged with the Awakened Source in 1979, finding clarity, true freedom, and internal peace. Following this realization, he traveled internationally to share his insights, eventually co-founding the Suoi Tu Awakened Monastery.
Today, he focuses on awakening the enlightenment potential within others, helping practitioners across the globe liberate the cycle of suffering through Zen meditation.
MERGING OF
THE GREAT VOW
From the Awakened Source, she established Universal Door Meditation Center in Sugar Land, Texas, in 2003, as the international headquarters for the Great Vow to awaken the world. In 2004, she met the Awakened Zen Master Thich Thong Hoi by chance in Hawaii. Recognizing that both lived from the same Awakened Source and Great Vow, their vows merged as one to awaken the Buddha Nature in all beings.
With infinite Wisdom and boundless Compassion, Awakened Zen Master Thich Dieu Thien opened Universal Door Awakened Monastery as a “Wake Up Center,” guiding all people to Wake Up, liberate the ego system, and live with true freedom and unconditional compassion.
THE FIVE AWAKE NATURES
OF THE AWAKENED ONES
From this One Awakened Source, the Five Awakened Natures naturally manifest: Boundless Compassion, Infinite Wisdom, Endless Awakened Tools, the Great Vow to awaken all beings, and the Pure Emptiness of the Awakened Source, guiding all beings back to their Awakened Nature and toward liberation from birth, death, suffering, and samsara.
AWAKENED ESSENCE
Awake Essence is the pure, bright, vast, complete, boundless energy source; it is formless, unlimited, light, fresh, and free.
THE
GREAT VOW
At the moment of Awakening, the Awakened Zen Master saw that all sentient beings have the capacity to Wake Up, but do not know, and forever and ever, drift in the cycle of birth and death.
INFINITE
WISDOM
The infinite Wisdom of the Awakened One is capable of thoroughly seeing each person for who they are, illuminating and unlocking their human mind to Wake Up and fully liberate the attachment to the human system.
BOUNDLESS COMPASSION
Seeing all beings immersed in illusion, drifting in the suffering of birth and death, naturally arises the boundless Compassion in the Awakened One to help all beings.
ENDLESS SKILLFUL MEANS
Any of the words or actions of the Awakened One, the Awake Tools are spontaneous, dynamic, accurate, exact, flexible, fluid, fresh.

The name “Suối Từ” means “the stream of compassion.” It is the Great Vow of the Buddhas and the Two Awakened Ones: to awaken all beings, to help them return to the Source of Awakening, and to continue this compassionate current until the path of Buddhahood, liberation, and the liberation of all beings is fully fulfilled.

Retreats, Classes & Activities at Suoi Tu
Over the years, children and families, youth, teens, and international practitioners have come to Suoi Tu seeking a way through suffering, confusion, and inner conflict. Under the direct guidance of Awakened One Thich Thong Hoi and Awakened One Thich Dieu Thien, many have realized the awakened clarity already within, and their lives — and the lives around them — have been deeply transformed.
Suoi Tu offers weekly and monthly retreats, classes, and activities to support this return to the True Self and reconnection with the Awakened Source. Through meditation, Dharma sharing, chanting, mindful work, and community practice, participants are guided according to their capacity and stage of practice — not simply to find temporary peace, but to look deeply, recognize the causes of suffering, awaken their inner potential, and walk the path toward true happiness, freedom, and liberation.
